East Kent Mencap is looking for a Maintenance Manager to provide a flexible, professional, customer focused Maintenance Service across all of our centres in Thanet, Canterbury and Swale. As well as a range of maintenance, security and cleaning works the post holder will be responsible procurement, planning and project management, Health and Safety, environmental management and reviews of cost effectiveness.
In January, Kent Police hosted an Internet Safety Workshop for people with a learning disability at our Herne Bay Resource Centre. The workshop covered social media, online scams and briefly touched on personal safety at the request of the attendees. Local Vulnerable Adult Intervention Officer, PCSO Dan Mimran led the workshop alongside his colleague, PCSO Matt Farley.
East Kent Mencap offers high-quality personalised day services to adults with learning disabilities and complex needs throughout East Kent. We are currently offering a full time contract for a Senior Support Worker to work in our Resource Centre in the Sheerness area. As this is an expanding service, your hours will also initially need to be shared within our housing and community areas.
We have finally completed the purchase of Foresters Hall in Ramsgate after Thanet District Council agreed to sell the property through a Community Asset Transfer. Foresters Hall, which includes a listed building from 1811, as well as other properties, will provide us with much needed space to expand its services for people with a learning disability and their families.
Margate Football Club kick-started the festive season for us by surprising our tenants with free tickets to a home game. On Saturday 24th November, football fans; Daniel, Louis, Stephen and Nick were supported by Senior Support Worker, Tamara Boarer to attend the Bostik League match against Bishops Stortford. Despite suffering a loss of 4-1, the group thoroughly enjoyed the day cheering on the team. They were given the opportunity to try out the 3G pitch themselves and even got to meet Margate FC Striker, Joe Taylor!
We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Margate to our photography exhibition this month. The photography group attend weekly sessions at our Margate Resource Centre to learn new skills.
We have been working closely with Foreland Fields School to raise the confidence of young people through discussions about their rights, alongside presentations from local groups. Foreland Fields School opened it’s doors to visitors from local businesses and groups in July to celebrate the first year of an exciting initiative to give pupils a voice about their future.
