Natalie’s story video premier – Overcoming Covid and taking 39 steps
7th October @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm
On March 20th 2020, our member Natalie was admitted to hospital having contracted the Covid 19 virus. After a six week long battle, Natalie had heroically fought off the virus and was able to return home.
East Kent Mencap staff were there to support her in hospital and at home, and our Support Workers Maria and Tris have put together a wonderful video scrapbook of Natalie’s journey, which we will be premiering online on Wednesday 7th October at midday on YouTube.
In this video you will see Natalie in hospital, leaving hospital cheered on by staff, arriving home, and her recuperation at home and in her local community. You will also see some of the wonderful activities Natalie and East Kent Mencap Support Worker Maria have done together as Maria supports Natalie at home, including walks, arts and crafts, singing, keep fit, socially distanced socialising, birthday celebrations, and virtual Day Resource sessions at East Kent Mencap.
After coming out of hospital, Natalie had to learn to walk again and build up her strength. As a focus, she decided to set herself the challenge to walk 39 step unsupported, and in doing so raise funds for East Kent Mencap. Towards the end of this video, you can see Natalie smashing her goal of 39 steps! She raised over £3,000 for East Kent Mencap, and we could not be more proud of her.
From Wednesday 7th October, you will be able to view the video on our YouTube channel here.
A huge thank you to East Kent Mencap’s staff, Tris and Maria, for putting this wonderful video scrapbook together of Natalie’s journey over the last six months.
