Claire Barnes, who attends our Swale Resource Centre, was inspired by the fitness sessions to take on a greater challenge and signed up for the 5K Pretty Muddy obstacle course in Maidstone this month.
The distinctive course is both fun and physically demanding, involving sliding through mud pits and scaling tall frames. In the weeks building up to the event, Claire underwent a training regime in preparation of the challenge. On the day, staff supported her to tackle the course. Finishing in a grand time of 1 hour 20 mins, she certainly didn’t disappoint, crossing the line smothered in mud. Not only has this experience boosted Claire’s self-esteem and confidence, she also contributed funds toward vital cancer research as she managed to raise over £300.
Swale Community Manager, Jaime Giddings commented: ‘Claire was so overwhelmed as she crossed the finish line she shed tears for all the weeks of hard work she’d put into training. It was a great day, I ended up the muddiest by far!’
