We are very pleased to announce that East Kent Mencap has achieved the status of a ‘Disability Confident Leader’. This is the highest level achievable in the Disability Confident Scheme, which is run by the Department for Work and Pensions.
The scheme was launched in November 2016 and aims to provide employers with the confidence they need to recruit, retain and develop disabled employees.
This status recognizes the charity’s efforts to provide an accessible and inclusive recruitment process and working environment for people with disabilities, as well as our commitment to offering work adjustments to employees who experience physical or mental ill-health.
Having attained the Level 2: Disability Confident Employer status for the past few years, we were very excited to have reached the third and final level, which involves becoming a spokesperson for the scheme, encouraging other organisations to get involved.
We are incredibly passionate about inclusion and diversity at East Kent Mencap, and think that being involved with a scheme that encourages employers to recruit and develop people with disabilities is very important. This aligns with our commitment to treating all employees fairly, and our vision of a world where people are valued equally, listened to and included, regardless of whether or not they have a disability.
