During the month of June, parents of young people with a learning disability were invited to Turner Contemporary to find out about moving into adult services.
What’s next?, organised by East Kent Mencap, mcch and The Foreland School, was funded by the Big Lottery Fund through Awards for All. A range of services had stalls at the event, providing information about what opportunities there are in Kent for young people moving into adult services.
Speakers included Penny Southern, the Director of Disabled Children at Kent County Council, who discussed the transitional stage that has been introduced by the council following feedback from parents.
Tesco Metro in Margate supported the event by donating a Tesco Finest hamper, which a parent won.
East Kent Mencap’s Children & Youth Manager, Ange Brown, said: “What’s next? was a great example of successful partnership work, & provided the opportunity for parents to speak directly to professionals from Kent County Council.”
