East Kent Mencap recently teamed up with Thanet Volunteer Bureau to encourage volunteering in the area.
We have been working with the Bureau as part of Getting On With Learning Disabilities (GOLD), our lottery-funded project, set up to promote independence. To reduce social isolation, the GOLD team are seeking volunteers to support people to take part in community activities, such as going to the cinema. In an effort to recruit these volunteers, the team took to Ramsgate high street, alongside members from its Getting On Group and Thanet Volunteer Bureau.
Delivery Manager, Suzanne Derham, said: “Spending the afternoon in Ramsgate was really successful, with many passers-by showing an interest in the volunteer opportunities we have at GOLD. It not only raised the profile of the charity, but also an awareness of people with a learning disability. The members that took part found it a real confidence boost too.”
