Earlier this year, East Kent Mencap was nominated as a finalist for the Kent Charity Awards, and on Thursday 16th March representatives attended the awards ceremony at the Mercure Great Danes Hotel in Maidstone.
The Kent Charity Awards showcase the hard work and perseverance that charities and voluntary groups undertake to make the lives of others better. We were finalists in the Supporting Charity of the Year category, alongside Kent Refugee Action Network and Rising Sun Domestic Violence & Abuse Service, who won the award.
Both staff and members attended the black tie event, where they enjoyed a complementary glass of champagne and a three-course meal. Although East Kent Mencap did not win Supporting Charity of the Year, we were awarded with a certificate for being a finalist, which was presented to GOLD member Alice Dryland.
CEO, Jason Gerlack, said: “We were extremely proud to be selected as a finalist for the Kent Charity Awards and took great pleasure in attending the event with a cross section of our charity.”
“Three of our members have never attended such an event and thoroughly enjoyed representing East Kent Mencap during the evening.”
