15 volunteers from the National Citizenship Service were given 3 weeks to meet, plan and develop a fundraising project that would benefit the local community. Choosing EKM, the group of 16-17 year olds undertook bucket collections around Margate, a funday in Broadstairs & a sponsored walk from Ramsgate, shattering their target of £500, raising over £700!
Project worker Lucy Carswell comments: ‘They were expected to do a lot in this time; finding a venue, preparing decorating and advertising the event, local companies were very helpful when they came to collect prizes, refreshments & games!’
Volunteer Mia Rodriguez said: ‘We really enjoyed the experience, telling the public about the charity and asking them to show their support. I’m so proud of the guys for being 100% dedicated throughout, along with many others- which has been made apparent by the resulting amount raised and the happy, proud faces on the day’
The amount raised by this group of volunteers will cover the cost of 10 bowling sessions for 40 young people with additional needs and so creates more chances for friends to meet and get involved with activities in the community. Thanks guys!’
