Carriers for Causes grants support projects that ‘benefit local communities – helping to improve lives and local places’. They are available for good causes within two miles of a One Stop shop.
Many members of East Kent Mencap will be familiar with the friendly staff at the One Stop Shop in Northdown Road, so we were hopeful when we sent off a request to fund trips for the young people accessing our holiday clubs. We asked for £500, which would cover 2 trips. Imagine our delight to be told that they were awarding us £3,000 – that’s enough for 6 trips! In fact, we were able to purchase some much needed sensory equipment as well.
As soon as we heard the news, we popped down the road to thank the staff and invited them to visit one of the holiday clubs. You can see from the photo, how much they enjoyed meeting some of the young people and staff and hearing about their plans to spend the money on trips to Wingham and Wildwood.
