Gary is the co-founder of Learning Disability England (LDE), a membership organisation for people with a learning disability, families, carers and organisations. LDE’s goal is to make people’s voices louder, enabling them to change negative attitudes towards learning disability and create more opportunities in education, work and everyday life.
Angelo is a member of our Supporting People Enablement Team (SPET), and supports Gary to achieve LDE’s goal. As part of his role as co-founder, Gary attends events across the whole of the UK, where he speaks about learning disability and self-advocacy. Angelo has supported Gary to prepare for many of these events, as well as a number of TV, radio and newspaper interviews, including one with The Guardian.
Most recently, Angelo accompanied Gary to the Channel 4 studios, where he took part in a panel discussion for No Go Britain. This is part of the Channel 4 News and looks at the day-to-day issues facing people with a disability in the UK today.
“Angelo and the SPET team have really supported me in my role at LDE, which has made a real difference to our work,” commented Gary. “I enjoy working with Angelo because we make a great team. We have a shared sense of humour, which makes working fun.”
Angelo said: “I have been working with Gary for just over a year now and have learned a lot from him and the work that he does with LDE, I’m sure that they he will continue to achieve great things.”
