We are taking action this Spring to raise money to fund new resources for our East Kent Mencap groups, including cooking, fitness, and sensory equipment. As it is our 75th anniversary we have ambitious plans to make the campaign even bigger and more fun for everyone involved.
Member Committee Representative, Stephen, came up with the idea for the Spring Forward Challenge, which encourages everyone to choose an activity or try a new project. All challenges are unique, to recognise and celebrate individuality, and will help everyone to learn new skills and grow in confidence.
The Spring Forward Challenge started on 1st April and will continue throughout the month. Already there are a host of challenges:
Natasha and Lucy – We are dancing together
Kirk – I am doing a coastal walk around Thanet
Amy – I am knitting squares for a patchwork
Sam – I am making a pom-pom rug
Nicola – I am creating a tapestry
David – I have set myself a cycling goal
Paul – I am doing a sponsored chest wax
Pierre – I have already completed my first puzzle challenge
Kathy – I am doing a walking challenge
East Kent Mencap CEO, Jason Gerlack, said: “Our Spring Forward Challenge puts people with a learning disability in the driving seat to make their own choices and set their own goals.”
The fundraising target is £3,000 and every penny will go towards funding resources and equipment.
Jason continued: “We’re hoping that as many people as possible take up the Spring Forward Challenge, it will make such a difference to East Kent Mencap. Thanks in advance for any support, no matter how big or small, it is all very much appreciated.”
