We would like to say a huge thank you to the five runners who have stepped forward to run the Vitality Half Marathon on Sunday 1st March in London, raising funds for East Kent Mencap!
East Kent Mencap applied for 5 marathon spaces for this iconic marathon and we were overwhelmed by the response we had! Our spaces were quickly filled by 5 wonderful people who are taking on this challenge in a bid to raise awareness, as well as funds, for our charity.
For those of you who are interested in supporting our runners and helping them to reach their targets, please find their Virgin Money Giving links below. Here, you can keep up to date and follow their journey:
If you want to cheer the runners on on the day, this iconic half marathon begins at Tower Bridge and finishes at the Cutty Sark in Greenwich. It is a stunning 13.1 mile course through the heart of London and our runners are raising valuable funds for East Kent Mencap’s work supporting people with a learning disability in East Kent.
East Kent Mencap has four Day Resources across East Kent, in Herne Bay, Margate, Ramsgate and Sheerness, supporting over 100 adults and children with a learning disability to live as independently as possible and achieve their potential. East Kent Mencap runs Day Resource sessions, groups and clubs, manages supported and independent living housing, and provides specialist support services in the community and at individuals’ homes, ensuring that all support provided is person-centric so that every individual gets the specific support they need.
Thanks to East Kent Mencap I have taken part in a weekly fitness class with my friends for over 3 years. It makes me feel happy and confident. I’m a lot more healthy now – David, member at East Kent Mencap
Last year’s Vitality Half Marathon brought together more than 13,000 runners of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Good luck to all the runners for this year’s big day!
