The District Partnership Groups (DPGs) have been working closely with the Jobcentre Plus to support people with a learning disability to find work experience opportunities.
In partnership with Margate Jobcentre Plus, the Thanet DPG recently held the first in a number of employment workshops to take place across Kent. This workshop addressed misconceptions around working, support and benefits.
The partnership working between the Jobcentre Plus and the DPGs has led to a number of easy read resources being developed to support people to access the work experience programme offered by the organisation.
Thanet DPG Support Worker, Michelle Hosken, said: “The group really enjoyed taking part in the activities, and I hope that after finding out more about their options, people will feel more confident about visiting their local Jobcentre.”
“After meeting some of the Jobcentre staff at the workshop, I feel less nervous about visiting,” commented Lucy, who attended the event.
The DPGs hold quarterly meetings across East Kent. At theses meetings, people with a learning disability, their carers and families can talk about the things that are important to them. For more information, visit www.kentldpb.org.uk.
