At our annual general meeting in 2016, a relative of one of our tenants raised a concern that our supported living accommodation offered no provision for older people who require more accessible facilities. In response to this, we invested in the purchase of a property in Palm Bay in November 2017. Clarence House is a five bed bungalow, which we have refurbished to provide accessible accommodation including wet rooms, handrails and specialist lighting. Tenants were supported to create their own private space, enabling their bedrooms to be decorated in a style that truly reflects each of their personalities.
Five of our older tenants have now been supported to move in to the new house. Clarence House will create a calm environment for those older people with higher support needs by focusing on health and well being. By developing this environment we can support those individuals to maintain a level of independence that is suitable to their needs as well as develop skills and interests that they may not have accessed before. Creating a sensory environment in the garden and an informal area where friends and families can gather will help to maintain and develop those all-important relationships.
