Carriers for Causes grants support projects that ‘benefit local communities - helping to improve lives and local places’. They are available for good causes within two miles of a One Stop shop. Many members of East Kent Mencap will be familiar with the friendly staff at the One Stop Shop in Northdown Road, so we were hopeful when we sent off a request to fund trips for the young people accessing our holiday clubs.
In August, members of our Margate resource centre visited the newly restored theme park by the sea for a day of laughter, sunshine and thrills.
The Supporting People Enablement Team (SPET) are currently helping one of our older tenants to find a companion to spend time with on a regular basis. She loves spending time out and about and is looking for a mature female to share her love of arts and crafts, accompany her on trips, and have a chat over coffee.
On Sunday 14th May, The St Crispin Inn, Worth hosted charity helicopter rides to raise money for Cancer Research UK. William House tenants, Philip Lovelock, Joy Crick and Ingrid Jelhe took off into the air for a breathtaking view of East Kent
On Thursday 3rd August, hundreds of people flocked to our one day festival for fun, football and falafel in the sunshine. The free event at Margate Football Club made sure everyone felt included regardless of age or ability during this Summer extravaganza.

Claire Barnes, who attends our Swale Resource Centre, was inspired by the fitness sessions to take on a greater challenge and signed up for the 5K Pretty Muddy obstacle course in Maidstone this month.
During the month of June, our photography group showcased some of their best work in an exhibition titled Wildlife and Abstract at Beach House Gallery in Herne Bay. The group invited friends and supporters to an open day where they talked about their experiences.
