Members of the Herne Bay High School Crochet Club recently enjoyed a visit to The ScrapStore in Ramsgate, where they stocked up on crafting materials for their latest creative projects.
The group explored the wide range of donated resources available at The ScrapStore, selecting yarn, fabrics and other crafting supplies to use over the summer months. During their visit, students also created handmade cards and gifts, which will be sold to raise funds for East Kent Mencap.
The visit forms part of an ongoing relationship between the school and The ScrapStore, with students returning each year to discover new materials and find inspiration for their projects.
We were also delighted to hear about the launch of Herne Bay High School’s new Yarn Library, which will be based in the school’s Learning Resource Centre. The Yarn Library will provide students with access to donated yarn and crafting materials, helping to encourage creativity and make crafting more accessible.
Dawn, who leads the Crochet Club, said:
“The ScrapStore is an amazing treasure trove of resources. The staff are friendly and very supportive, helping our students find everything that they need for their individual projects.
They say it is the best school visit every year, and come back to school with bulging bags of yarn and crafting materials, and massive grins on their faces. I am really looking forward to seeing what they create over the summer, and also to the next time we can visit again.”
The ScrapStore relies on donations from the local community to keep creative materials in circulation and support sustainable crafting. As part of East Kent Mencap, every suggested donation also helps support people with a learning disability across East Kent.
