We enable and empower individuals with a learning disability in East Kent to achieve the things they want out of life, through choice, support and opportunity

We take a person-centred approach and advocate for people with a learning disability to be valued, treated equally, listened to and included. Everything we do is led by our members - the people with a learning disability that use our services.

How we make a difference

There are over 28,000 people with a learning disability living in Kent. We offer an essential service throughout East Kent - Thanet, Canterbury, Ashford, Swale and Shepway districts. East Kent Mencap:

  • Listens to people with a learning disability
  • Supports people living with a learning disability in all areas of their lives
  • Fights for the changes that people with a learning disability and their families and carers want and need
  • Provides information and advice
  • Works with people and groups that want the same things we do
  • Gives people with a learning disability a voice and advocates for them to be treated equally

What East Kent Mencap means to you

East Kent Mencap supports people with a learning disability to achieve their potential
  • As person centred plans are used at East Kent Mencap I chose their community support team to work to support Leah as I did not want a ‘sitter service’, but support for her to do the activities that she wanted to do
